Our story starts out with the princess of Auranos visiting the neighboring kingdom of Paelsia when her friend murders a man in cold blood. This causes all sorts of repercussions for the princess, and the kingdoms of Paelsia and Limeros unite to fight against Auranos.
This first book did a great job of easing you into this high fantasy world, and I was genuinely surprised by how easy it was to follow along. (Although the fact that it includes a cast of characters definitely helped) Rhodes’s writing style is pretty simple, not overly descriptive, but it works with this story and everything flowed together well. The story itself is told from several POV’s, but the main three are the princess of Auranos, the prince of Limeros, and the brother of the murdered Paelsian.
The plot-line was pretty fun and I really enjoyed getting to see everything unfold from each character’s perspective.

I really loved how the characters started to develop and their dynamics with each other. The plot thankfully thickened and we finally get to see a glimpse of the magical side of things. The only reason this one is getting a 4.5 instead of a 5 is because every character seems to have a fling/relationship with everyone around them. Like there’s probably a love decagon going on at this point.

I freaking loved this one!!! We get to learn and see so much more about the world and the magic system and a lot of new characters are introduced. And the fantastic enemies to lovers romance that I was promised finally started to take shape! Things are definitely a lot darker in this one but I was living for every second of it and couldn’t put the book down. As soon as I finished this one I immediately ordered the last 3 books from Amazon.

Overall this has been an extremely entertaining series so far and I’m loving my binge of it. I just finished the 4th book yesterday so I only have 2 left now!
I’ve been trying to figure out who is who on each book cover and it’s irking me that I don’t know. I realize who is on books 4 and 6 but these have really been confusing me ugh.
Have you read this series, and if so what did you think of it? Or do you plan on reading it sometime in the future? Let me know your thoughts!
