Hi lovelies! Can you believe that July is already over? This was an eh month for my reading. I participated in The Book Junkie Trials, and I did finish all of my team’s prompts and a couple of extras, but I would have liked to read more. In July I read a total of 7 books and 2,880 pages.
The reason I’ve been a little MIA from the blogging world for the past week or so is because I’m sick again. Ugh. I was just sick like two+ weeks ago. Not fun. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to posting somewhat regularly soon! Now on to the books!
★★★.5
Both the beginning and ending of this book were phenomenal and had me wanting to give it four stars. And the fact that it had an “unreliable narrator” thing going on was great! Sadly the pacing and the fact that the entire middle chunk of the book dragged on and on just didn’t cut it for me. And all of the characters were just extremely un-likeable. It still managed to be entertaining with the whole slasher vibe though, so I’ll try to pick up some of Sager’s other works and hope I click with them more.
Daughter of the Siren Queen (Daughter of the Pirate King #2) by Tricia Levenseller
★★★★
This was an enjoyable conclusion to the duology, but I didn’t think it was quite as good as the first book. The pirates, sirens, and quest for treasure kept things at a fun, fast pace, but the annoying angst from Alosa in regards to the romance? It’s a no from me.
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
★★★★★
This is now my favorite book of all-time. I never own multiple copies of books, but I now have 3 different editions of this and am looking for a 4th. I need help lol. I’m going be writing a review and doing something a little fun for this book sometime soon!
Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer #1) by Laini Taylor
★★★★★
I’m honestly at a loss for words about this one. All I can say is that it was beautiful, magical, and oh so heartbreaking. The ending played me but I’m not even mad because this book was just that amazing. I can’t wait to start the sequel.
All-New Wolverine Vol. 4: Immune
★★★★
This was an interesting volume and the friendship between Gabby and Deadpool made it so much more fun. They were hilarious together. Laura was as great as ever, but the only reason it’s getting 4 stars instead of 5 is because I was just not a fan of the Horde plot-line and some of the artwork.
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
★★★.5
I lowkey buddy read this with my friends Robin and Chelsea, and I’m glad that I did because otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to finish it (it’s 800+ pages, yikes). I did like the story, but I didn’t love it. The characters were amazing and I really loved the Eastern dragons. But this was way longer than it needed to be and the politics were more important than the fantasy aspects, which wasn’t what I was expecting. I just would have liked to see more of the dragons and less of the courts.
★★★★★
I had really high expectations for this and I definitely wasn’t let down! This was such a fun volume with a strong female lead, illegal street races, biker gangs, f/f romance, and so much more. I couldn’t get enough of the characters and I’m really looking forward to continuing this run.
And that wraps up my wrap up! How did your reading month go? Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your own wrap up post!

Wow, you read some amazing titles in July; I loved reading about your thoughts about them ♥ What was your favourite out of all of them? (Even if I do suspect what your answer will be, haha ♥)

Aww thanks Debora! It was definitely Sorcery of Thorns, but Strange the Dreamer was a close second!

That’s awesome that you read so many great books in July – including two new favorites, woah! Okay, I DEFINITELY need to pick up Sorcery of Thorns now. And even though I loved Priory of the Orange Tree when I read it, it’s true that it’s just HUGE and takes a lot of effort to get through 😂 Good luck with your reading in August – and I hope you get better soon!

Thanks! And yes you do need to pick up Sorcery! It’s seriously so good.
Right? I probably would have enjoyed Priory a bit more if it hadn’t been SO LONG. 😂
Thank you so much 💙 I hope your reading in August is fun and successful too!

Wow, it looks like you had an awesome reading month! I couldn’t just pick one favorite so I picked three, but one of them was also Sorcery of Thorns. I mean, THAT BOOK! So much love 🥰I still have Priory and Daughter of the Pirate King to read and I’m looking forward to both; despite hearing quite some mixed reviews about Priory! Hope your August reading month is even better! 🙌🏽

Yes it was pretty successful! I know, right? I don’t think I’ll ever stop being obsessed with Sorcery.
I hope you enjoy Daughter of the Pirate King & Priory! But yeah there’s a lot of mixed reviews for The Priory of the Orange Tree so you might like it more than I did. The two friends I read it with both gave it 5 stars lol.
Thank you 😊 I hope yours is too!

Seems like you read a lot of GOOD books! I really NEED NEED NEED to read Strange the Dreamer because I have been pushing that farther and farther away from me ’cause I’m scared of the mighty high expectations! I’m also so so ready to dive into Sorcery of Thorns; that one sounds like it has ALL the elements that I enjoy! Happy reading for August! c:
awickedreader says
Yeah I did 😊 And lol I totally understand that. I think that’s the reason it took me so long to pick it up as well, but I’d highly recommend it. And oh my gosh yesss to Sorcery. You’re going to love it!
Thank you 💙 happy reading to you too Janina!
