Hi lovelies! So this is a Top Five Saturday series that was created by Mandy over at Devouring Books. It’s a fun post for the weekend and if you want to see more of the topics, go check out her blog for more info!
On a side note, yes I am aware that I’m posting a Saturday theme on a Sunday but I’m still sick and forgot to schedule it so oops. My bad.

Top 5 Books with Asian Settings on My TBR
Spin the Dawn is a YA fantasy about a tailor that’s set in China during the Silk Road era. It was a 2019 release that I was looking forward to, and my lovely friend Diana recently bought it for me, so it’s towards the top of my TBR now. The cover is so stunning and the author seems really nice on Twitter so I just can’t wait to dive into this story.
I’ve been interested in this one since I first heard the premise of it. Wicked Fox is a YA fantasy set in Seoul, South Korea whose main character is a gumiho or nine-tailed fox which comes from Korean mythology. Ever since the release of this, I’ve only seen high praise and amazing reviews, so I’m hoping to get to this one soon. Plus the cover is really cute!
Another book featuring Korean mythology about foxes! Dragon Pearl is a middle grade sci-fi about a young girl on a journey to find her brother that is technically set in space, but with the rich Korean culture I figured that I’d go ahead and add it to this list! I was actually supposed to read it for a book club a couple of months ago but that didn’t happen lol.
The Star-Touched Queen is set in a fictional kingdom somewhere in India. This is a YA fantasy about a princess and is steeped in vivid descriptions and Indian mythology. I’ve had this one on my TBR for years and just haven’t gotten around to it. I was even supposed to read it for a readathon a couple of months ago, but as we can see, that didn’t happen. I am still looking forward to it though, so maybe I’ll get to it someday.
Now this is a book that I’ve heard nothing but good things about. The Poppy War is an adult historical fiction about the Second Sino-Japanese War. The main character is a girl that surprisingly gets accepted into a military academy and the atmosphere is supposed to be heavily inspired by the Song Dynasty. This book is supposed to be extremely dark, so I just haven’t been in the mood to pick it up yet.
Since I’m posting this one a day late (I’m sorry lol), I’m not going to tag anyone specific. But if you want to participate in Top 5 Saturday then I’m tagging you to do it!
Have you read any of the titles that I mentioned? If so, what did you think?

I hope you feel better soon, Sailor! Good on you for even posting when you’re feeling sick π Spin the Dawn, Wicked Fox and The Poppy War are also on my TBR. I’ve also heard nothing but good things about Poppy War and I’m excited to read an adult historical fiction fantasy (I don’t read many of those)!

Thanks so much Dini, I really appreciate it!!
The antibiotics seem to be helping a little so hopefully I’ll be as good as new sometime soon.
Aww yay! They all seem like such great reads. Foreal. I don’t think I’ve ever read an adult historical fiction fantasy so I’m excited to see what it’s like!

Glad to hear the meds are helping! I hope we both enjoy Poppy War as much as everyone else seems to! π

Get well soon! And that’s a really great list! I was also super excited for Wicked Fox but when I read it I was disappointed… My opinion is super subjective though, so I hope you enjoy the book instead.

I love your choices! I have read The Poppy War and Spin the Dawn. I enjoyed both, but HIGHLY recommend The Poppy War. The Star Touched Queen almost made my list, and I considered The Dragon Pearl, but I rarely read middle grade books, so it didn’t make the list either. I want to read them both though! So glad to have you join!!

Thanks! And ooh good to know! Iβm really hoping to get to some of these books before the year is up but my TBR is so crazy. I rarely read middle grade either but the cover for Dragon Pearl is what really interested me lol.
Thank you, and thanks for tagging me ππ

Thanks! And ooh good to know! Iβm really really hoping to get to some of these soon, but my physical TBR is crazy, so weβll see what happens. I rarely read middle grade either so I understand, but the cover for The Dragon Pearl just reeled me in lol.
It was my pleasure, and thanks for tagging me! ππ

I have a lot on my TBR as well right now, mostly ARCs. When I finally get through those I should probably make a backlist TBR because there are so many titles that I’m dying to get to!

I absolutely can’t wait to read Spin the Dawn and Wicked Fox!

I know, they seem so interesting and have such creative plots! Itβs hard to find something new and original these days.

I know, they seem to have such creative and interesting plots! Itβs been hard to find YA fantasies with new and original ideas like that lately.
